CAR CRASH? BLAME IT ON YOUR STAR SIGN

CAR CRASH? BLAME IT ON YOUR STAR SIGN
By Toby Mcdonald

A CAR driver's skills are written in the stars, according to a study.

Researchers say insurers can predict which motorists are most likely to take a risk at the wheel by their star signs.

They analysed 160,000 accident claims to find impatient Geminis are the most likely to prang their cars, followed by pushy Taureans and risk-taking Pisces.

The survey by an Australian firm shows Capricorns are least likely to crash.

Personal insurance manager Warren Duke said: "Geminis, restless, easily bored and frustrated by things moving slowly, had more car accidents than any other sign.

"Taureans are thought to be stubborn and inflexible, while Pisceans are risk-takers and dare-devils.

"Capricorns are generally thought of as patient."

The research could account for the success of Scots Jackie Stewart (Gemini), Dario Franchitti (Taurus) and Jim Clark (Pisces) in the risk-taking world of motor racing.

But 13-times Grand Prix winner David Coulthard is an Aries and world rally champion Colin McRae a Leo.

Academic Cynthia McVey said yesterday she was sceptical over a link between astrology and driving.

The Glasgow Caledonian University psychologist said: "I'm a Piscean, but drive very slowly and used to have a Volvo. Maybe I'm the exception that proves the rule

KEEP AN EYE ON GEMINI

1 Gemini: Enthusiastic but lack application and concentration.
2 Taurus: Obstinate, rigid, and stuck in a self-centred rut.
3 Pisces: Dislike discipline.
4 Virgo: Eye for detail but neglect other road users.
5 Cancer: Not keen on rules.
6 Aquarius: Logical, inflexible
7 Aries: Aggressive, restless.
8 Libra: Even-tempered, but indecisive.
9 Leo: Tend to ignore others.
10 Sagittarius: Easily distracted.
11 Scorpio: Self-confident, good road sense.
12 Capricorn: Stable, plodder

I can't say that I'm surprised at this. Personally, I would have debated the placement of some of the signs in the middle, but overall I think they are right on with what I would have predicted.

take care,
Skye
